UAE

An open-source Amiga emulator. UAE originally stood for the "Useless Amiga Emulator", so called as it couldn't even boot. Nowadays, UAE has matured enormously and it may stand for "Unix Amiga Emulator". UAE offers many features such as emulating the AGA Custom Chipset, Just In Time (JIT) emulation, RTG (ReTargetable Graphics) via Picasso96 and even ReTargetable sound through AHI. The most complete port of UAE is WinUAE - the other versions began to stagnate untill E-UAE was released by Richard Drummond, complete with networking and JIT emulation.

E-UAE has been ported to many architectures including Amiga/68k and Amiga/PowerPC. At first this seems pointless, but it allows users of high-end Amigas to "use" a low-end Amiga, with the compatibility that provides (and the retro nostalgia). UAE is the only way for an AmigaONE to run software that directly uses the Custom Chipset.

AmigaOne's Implementation: Case Study for a machine delivered brand new September 1, 2003, G4, 800Mhz, 512Megs, Debian Woody for the Linux side.

Things UAE will not do:

  1. access the Ethernet services
  2. provide the color "blue" for AGA
  3. have anything to do with PC0:
